1992
As our clients have blossomed and prospered, Chin Communications has embraced change, won multiple awards, and moved forward with them.
What started as a Chinese translating and interpreting company 3 decades ago has now become an in-house, full-service studio. We translate, we design, we write, we subtitle, we record voiceovers, we create brands, we market online and on social, and we have fun. Through it all, we’ve stayed true to our promise to quality and client service. And after all these years, we’re still one of the most trusted Chinese language specialists in Australia – and we’re rightly proud of that.
Thank you to our wonderful clients, staff, their families, and team.
Our Story
In 2022, Chin Communications celebrates 30 years of flourishing communications.
Australian businesses, organisations, and governments needed a clear, effective voice to speak to the Chinese market, so we came along. That was three decades ago.
Chin Communications’ success is reflected in our trade with China which rose from less than $100 million in 1992 to $245 billion in 2020 and the number one position.
We’ve faced some significant tests along the way including coronavirus and Australia-China political tensions. We’ve kept clear heads and guided our clients through the challenges. We continue to stand by our clients to help them keep their Chinese relationships strong.
Underpinning the ups and downs, the importance of getting the language right in order to achieve long term success has put our clients in a strong position. Mandarin interpreting for negotiations and meetings; ensuring accurate and culturally appropriate translations; and tailored Chinese marketing have been transformative for many clients.

Cool Timeline
Deng Xiaoping, then leader of the People’s Republic of China, famously proclaimed: “it doesn’t matter the colour of the cat, as long as it catches mice” and introduced market reforms. This heralded the start of China’s mighty economic rise.
Chin Communications is born, answering a need to build bridges between Australia and China. We started as a Chinese training, translation and interpreting company with a mission to help Australian businesses get into the China market.
Chin Communications celebrates a successful decade. We also launched our Chinese design services and expanded to multiple language capabilities. Multimedia production, website localisation, and Chinese branding are born.
Chin Communications moves into its own tailor-made offices at 221 Queen Street, Melbourne, to accommodate our growing team.
We establish the Chin Communications Masters Scholarship for Chinese translators and interpreters at Monash University on our 20th birthday.
Australia and China negotiate a free trade agreement. Australia-China two-way trade is valued at over $150 billion. Chin Communications has been involved from the start.
Coronavirus and challenges in the Australia-China relationship have dominated the news. We found solutions to help keep the lines of communication open, in particular social media and WeChat management, as well as remote interpreting for meetings, events and court hearings.
In the year when Australia and China mark 50 years of diplomatic relations, the Chinese ‘whisperers’, Chin Communications, celebrate 30 years of providing support to governments, businesses and organisations developing relationships and business with China, reinforcing our confidence in the Chinese market. Thirty years on, the China story is still going strong.
Human-centred, client-focused and continually developing our team and processes. Where a typical translation agency consists of account managers or individual operators pushing out work to contractors, often in low-fee countries and often in public view online, Chin decided from early on to employ and develop its own translators, interpreters and more recently marketing specialists. We even set up a scholarship at Monash University to help develop talent.
We’ve also given real-life experience to many master degree students in these disciplines some of whom joined Chin and remain with us after many years.
The benefits of an in-house team to our clients includes being able to discuss issues and our team to provide advice directly; to maintain style and consistency, to turn things around quickly and to coalesce many steps in our process: translation, checking, layout, proofreading and any urgent changes and consequently to help our clients gain an advantage.
Technological innovations in translation memories and AI have been adopted where advantageous.
